Chris Pirillo discusses new publishing platform

I found this video very interesting cause it deals with issues I find myself dealing with today.  The problem of CMS systems and not meeting your specific needs.

What is Chris doing about that?  He's building his own platform.   But he's giving it back to the community in a smart way.
  • It'll be open source.
  • Built with OO PHP (is there a difference between OOPHP and just PHP?)
Chris is coming at this from a publishers point of view and not from the developers point of view.  I think that'll make a huge difference.  Projects like Drupal, Moveable Type are designed and developed by developers and are heavy on functionality and light on customization.

Seems like every web site I've worked on we've had to customize the CMS system we use to meet very specific needs for the client.

It'll be interesting to see how this comes out.

On a side note I found what Chris was saying about PHP being prevalent on all hosts right on target.   I'll hate to admit that but every host I have ever paid for has had PHP installed.  Even this host has PHP and MediaGab uses PHP for the forum software.

Maybe someday Ruby on Rails will be as prevalent as PHP on hosts?
